Metaphor Monday

"The basis of fairy tale is in reality. The basis of reality is fairy tales."
-- George Baxt and Milton Subotsky
"City of the Dead"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's Metaphor Monday on The After Show. This is the day when we call things what they are. No Similes allowed. Not today.
A newly released report reveals it might have been John Barron, claiming to be a mook named Carmine, who threatened a business enemy over Trump’s failed Atlantic City casino; Ivanka hawks the family’s new Manila development, as Dad invites Strongman Duterte to the White House for some Korean BBQ; and, Donald Trump wants you to know he won the election, especially after you’ve been complaining about all that winning.
For The Last Halfwe report that Labor Unions and Immigrant advocacy groups will lead May Day rallies today, in a challenge to Trump’s Immigration policies; and, in a bombshell report published late Sunday night by the Washington Post, the US far right is getting duped by Putin, and it’s “part of something bigger.”
All that plus, the Connect! Unite! Act! Daily Kos Community Calendar and more, on The After Show with Wink & Justice.
While this America settles in the mould of its vulgarity, heavily thickening to empire, And protest, only a bubble in the molten mass, pops and sighs out, and the mass hardens,
 I sadly smiling remember that the flower fades to make fruit, the fruit rots to make earth. Out of the mother; and through the spring exultances, ripeness and decadence; and home to the mother.
 You making haste haste on decay: not blameworthy; life is good, be it stubbornly long or suddenly A mortal splendor: meteors are not needed less than mountains: shine, perishing republic.
 But for my children, I would have them keep their distance from the thickening center; corruption Never has been compulsory, when the cities lie at the monster’s feet there are left the mountains.
 And boys, be in nothing so moderate as in love of man, a clever servant, insufferable master. There is the trap that catches noblest spirits, that caught—they say—God, when he walked on earth.
After Show Links & Show Notes Friday
Angle of Repose Friday Edition
28 April 2017
Angle of Repose Friday
“I wonder if ever again Americans can have that experience of returning to a home place so intimately known, profoundly felt, deeply loved, and absolutely submitted to? It is not quite true that you can't go home again. I have done it, coming back here. But it gets less likely. We have had too many divorces, we have consumed too much transportation, we have lived too shallowly in too many places.”
-- Wallace Stegner
It's "Angle of Repose Friday" on The After Show. Surveys say, that’s the angle in which a granular substance stays in place on a slope. We insist it’s the angle you recline on your Barcalounger while reading Wallace Stegner’s, “Angle of Repose.”
Emails obtained in a public records request, reveal Jane Sanders has been under an FBI investigation for at least a year because of fraudulent loans; Trump’s first lower court nominee would make it easier to buy elections; and, Trump just might be ratcheting up a conflict with North Korea to force South Korea to pay for missile defense.
For The Last Half, it's the Friday News Dump and Recycling Center, news that's been re-purposed with a purpose.
We remember Graef Crystal, the insider who blew the whistle on corporate greed; and, experts will carry out tests to determine how a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence found its way to an archive in southern England.
All that, plus the Connect! Unite! Act! Daily Kos Community Calendar and more, on The After Show with Wink & Justice.
Do not weep, maiden, for war is kind.
Because your lover threw wild hands toward the sky
And the affrighted steed ran on alone,
Do not weep.
War is kind.
 Hoarse, booming drums of the regiment,
 Little souls who thirst for fight,
 These men were born to drill and die.
 The unexplained glory flies above them,
 Great is the battle-god, great, and his kingdom—
 A field where a thousand corpses lie.
Do not weep, babe, for war is kind.
Because your father tumbled in the yellow trenches,
Raged at his breast, gulped and died,
Do not weep.
War is kind.
 Swift, blazing flag of the regiment,
 Eagle with crest of red and gold,
 These men were born to drill and die.
 Point for them the virtue of slaughter,
 Make plain to them the excellence of killing
 And a field where a thousand corpses lie.
Mother whose heart hung humble as a button
On the bright splendid shroud of your son,
Do not weep.
War is kind.
Thank God It's Giovedì Edition
27 April 2017
Thank God It's Giovedì
"Honoring the Great God Jove, because Thursday, is truly the gateway to the weekend!"
If it's Thursday on The After Show with Wink & Justice; then Thank God It's Giovedì (that's what we call it, because we can).
The company pushing to scrap Obama-era pre-paid debit card regulations, paid $53 million to settle charges it tricked its customers; questions arise over where Steve Bannon gets his money when it is revealed there are no records he made money off of Seinfeld; and, the European Parliament acts to strip Marine Le Pen of immunity over charges she fraudulently used EU funds to pay for fake jobs on her campaign.
On The Last Half,  we visit with  Angela Marx, aka, AngieinWAState, for a discussion on Trump’s attempts to undo Net Neutrality; Trump gives anti-immigrant, paranoid bigots a VOICE; and, Senators yesterday discovered, you’re either on the bus, or you’re off the bus.
All that, plus the Connect! Unite! Act! Daily Kos Community Calendar and more, on The After Show with Wink & Justice.
For The Last Halfwe report Carrier workers are not happy about losing their jobs after Trump’s “deal;” and, the second round of the French elections will be the far-right versus the European Union.
The Energy Department is denying funds for already-approved grants; Arizona Governor Doug Ducey signed a bill to preempt nonexistent gun restrictions by local governments; and, the Wisconsin Supreme Courta wholly-owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, rejected a request from 56 judges to address judicial campaign cash.
For The Last Half, it's the Friday News Dump and Recycling Center, news that's been re-purposed with a purpose.
Karen Handel, the Georgia GOP candidate in the runoff to fill Tom Price’s House seat, is a pioneer in voter suppression; and, after receiving 94% of its funding from taxpayers, the California State Auditor discovers Los Angeles’ largest Charter School chain has raised millions in Dark Money to fight a Union drive.
Wednesday's Child is Full of Whoa! Wednesdays Edition
 19 April 2017
Wednesday's Child is Full of Whoa! Wednesdays
"I've dug in Alaska and in Canada and Colorado. I was with the crowd in British Honduras where I made my fare back home and almost enough over to cure me of the fever I'd caught. I've dug in California and Australia, all over the world practically. Yeah, I know what gold does to men's souls."
-- B Traven
"The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's "Wednesday's Child is Full of Whoa! Wednesdays" on The After Show. We were going to call it "Germanic Mercury" but you know what they say, one cannot live on Greek and Roman gods, alone. At least, not in America.

US drug wholesaler, McKesson Medical-Surgical Inc, sues Arkansas for fraud in how it obtained the company’s banned lethal injection drugs; the Private Prison Industry’s pay to play strategy is a lucrative success under the Trump Administration; and, Trump’s missile attack on Syria was justified with fake intelligence.

For The Last Half, we visit with  Angela Marx, aka, AngieinWAState, for a discussion on the Second Amendment and the Heller decision; Society’s failure on having a proper discussion of the gun issue; and, the proliferation of these public murders seems more reminiscent of the US film production of, “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,” rather than the Belgian produced, “Man Bites Dog.”

All that, plus the Connect! Unite! Act! Daily Kos Community Calendar and more on The After Show with Wink & Justice.

I am the people—the mob—the crowd—the mass.
Do you know that all the great work of the world is done through me?
I am the workingman, the inventor, the maker of the world’s food and clothes.
I am the audience that witnesses history. The Napoleons come from me and the Lincolns. They die. And then I send forth more Napoleons and Lincolns.
I am the seed ground. I am a prairie that will stand for much plowing. Terrible storms pass over me. I forget. The best of me is sucked out and wasted. I forget. Everything but Death comes to me and makes me work and give up what I have. And I forget.
Sometimes I growl, shake myself and spatter a few red drops for history to remember. Then—I forget.
When I, the People, learn to remember, when I, the People, use the lessons of yesterday and no longer forget who robbed me last year, who played me for a fool—then there will be no speaker in all the world say the name: “The People,” with any fleck of a sneer in his voice or any far-off smile of derision.
The mob—the crowd—the mass—will arrive then.
